my Vitocal 222-S is only 14 months old, I am thus not planning to replace it before about 15 years ... However, if Viessmann confirms that replacing the current R410A with the new RS-53 (R470A), after the end of the two years warranty and through a qualified technician, will likely not damage or impair correct operation of the 222-S, then I would be happy to proceed with said drop-in replacement. by the way, I have just found out that for the new models Viessmann has switched to refrigerant R32, which would solve the problem (GWP = 675 instead of 2088). But would Viessmann recommend to replace the R410A with the new R32 in a 2019 version of the Vitocal 222-S currently charged with the R410A ? and in that case, how many Kg of R32 would be reuired to replace 3.2 kg of R410A?

Hi Michael, thanks for the prompt reply. In fact, I am living in Italy and I thought that 222-A was just the UK country coding for the same model as the Italy country coding 222-S. On the web site photographs look very similar. However, from you clarification I now understand that for the 222-A the external unit probably directly heats (or cool) the water, without need for refrigerant connections to the internal unit, but just water ones. In my Vitocal 222-S the external unit has one fan. One more point about the EU F - gas regulation is that "hermetically sealed " is also equivalent to a proof that the refrigerant circuit leaks less than 3g/year. Is there any test or certification from Viessmann that this is the case when refrigerant pipes are installed according to standard techniques ? Moreover, the periodic checks intervals are extended to 2 years if the system implemets ways to detect refrigerant leaks. Would a refrigerant leak always result in Vitotronic displaying some type of fault codes (even indirect ones)?

I am trying to understand whether my Vitocal 222-S falls within the scope of EU F - gas regulation "hermetically sealed". The manual I have is from 2018, and so it still mentions the old 3 kg R410A relevant data. Now, in 2021 (but I believe since 2019) the rule has changed, and it now refers to whether or not the refrigerant quantity corresponds to > 5 tons CO2. Unfortunately, 3 kg of R410A corresponds to about 6.4 tons CO2 ... however, if the Vitocal 222-S could be considered "hermetically sealed", according to the EU F - gas regulation, then the 5 tons CO2 limit is increased to 10 tons CO2, which is fine. On VIESSMANN UK, for the model Vitocal 222-A (https://www.viessmann.co.uk/products/heat-pumps/air-source-heat-pumps/vitocal-222-a-mb which to me looks identical, or anyway very similar to the 222-S) it is explicitly mentioned "No refrigeration leak test due to hermetically sealed cooling circuit". But, is it the same also for the Vitocal 222-S ?

I am trying to understand whether PARAMETER 7319 is effective also during COOLING. For my VITOCAL 222-S based system I have tried to set it to 48, understanding that it would correspond to a total of 48 on-off cycles in 24h, i.e two cycles/hour. But the diagnostic table displays the pump at 100% all the time, being never powered off. Does that mean that this functionality works only during Heating Mode ? Thanks Luca By the way, number of cycles in 24h, but assuming what value for the duty cycle value? perhaps 50%?

Hallo, on my Vitocal 222-S diagnostic table, in column 3 at row E, I observe this symbol but I was not able to find it listed in the VITOTRONIC service manual (italia language version) delivered with the unit. What does it mean ? Many thanks Luca

Thanks, I will rather try that myself, as I no longer trust the relevant technical skills of that installator (for other reasons as well), and I am not willing to spend effort in warranty applicability litigations. I would nevertheless suggest to Viessmann to consider the possibility (for example in one of the future firmware versions) to add the choice for the user to define a fixed frequency for inverter operation, though solely during "Reduced Noise" operation. Of course, making it then clear that that makes sense only when the user accepts a somewhat reduced max power capability in favour of max silent operation. Best Regards

Thanks Flo, indeed, I do not see any such noise decoupling fastening ... it seems the installator was careless about it: - pipes from the external unit make a curve, but I see no fastening at all before they enter the wall - pipes to the internal unit come out of underfloor, rise straight up about 220 cm, and make a curve back down to the top of the internal unit. Again, I do not see any fastening to the wall ... As I now mistrust the way this installator works, I am probably better off by installing said sound decoupling fastening hardware myself. But I have no idea where to get it. Would you have links to examples of suitable fasteners ? thanks

Since a couple of months my flat is heated by a VITOCAL 222-S, AWBT-E-AC 221.C08 together with Energycal Radiant heating elements. I am quite happy with it, were it not for a low frequency hum noise, which becomes most noticeable at night (by neighbors too, unfortunately ...). For night operation, I have already activated the "Reduced Noise" option, and tried both levels, but not much success. I believe it might be related to an acoustic resonance within the gas pipes (about 13m), which appears to set in when the inverter operates at a frequency somewhere in between 30 to 40 Hz. Is there some way to set some service parameters as to explicitly exclude this frequency range during "Reduced Noise" operation ? Consider also that at nights I do not need full performances, as I set most of the Energycal elements to Radiant operation only (let us say that during night I am probably using not more than about 1kW average).
