Intended relationship between the StandBy Mode and the "immidiate selection" ?

What is the intended relationship between the StandBy Mode and the "immidiate selection" (in german "Schnelle Auswahl") function?
I noticed that the selection of the OneTimeCharge function while the system was in StandBy Mode was working. I was a bit surprised!
The system went back into StandBy after charging once.
